Description
Old Ukraine Folk tales, closely resemble the greed we see in others.
The woman who took, but never gave,
cheated but never paid,
betrayed was never loyal.
Slowly growing old each passing day,
not knowing that one day she too will pay.
Enjoy the life you stole from one who trusted,
Indulge in the things you feel make you who
you are, stolen homes, money, and every material
item will never make you who you attempt to be.
In the End the story of the Greedy Woman and the Lime Tree
is your mirror image.
The Urkraine Folk Tale, In the end the Husband realizes that not only did the woman he believe was his "diamond forever", was truely using him for all that she could gain for herself. As her beauty faded, she was left a lonely old woman with nothing left, and Karma came around in full circle, as it always does.

You may be right, it is a local folklore about the woman, it was said that she was very greedy, and was buried by a husband who felt she took total advantage of him, and basically left him penniless. Interesting on your take, you could be right. It is a gorgeous monument, and I do see the look of some sort of loss or regret in her face. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I Love to study cemetery sculptures, especially in Savannah, Georgia, which is filled with so many similar stories. Thank you for taking the time to comment! Best Wishes! Shawn

Shawn, I liked your capture of the statue, especially the weathered texture. I'm wondering if there could be a different interpretation. Usually cemetery sculptures depict a sense of loss and longing. What I see is not greed, but the loss of something valuable with the coins representing the deceased person. Just a thought. Did the cemetery sculpture have quotations from the fable itself? Cheri

Thank you so much Patricia, she fit the story from reading about it, I found it so interesting, it's so old, but you still see it so often.........I believe there is a strange, empty life behind true greed. I have seen people do the most unspeakable things over greed. I am glad you enjoyed it, although I know it's way out there....... Shawn

Thank you Rick, I felt it exemplified the Ukraine Fable, it's hard to see but she is actually holding what appears to be a bag, however all of the coins were at her feet, there were very odd statements, that lead me to believe she was possilbly laid to rest by someone who was very angry with her........maybe it just appeared that way!
